MSHA & Safety Training On-Campus Is Open !! 

(Pre-Registration Is Required). OFTC continues to offer “Live Online” mine safety courses (listed below), however, On-Campus Classes Have ResumedOFTC’s Safety Training Department continues to follow the guidance of TCSG, CDC & GDPH in order to ensure a safe environment for our trainees and staff.

OFTC seeks to provide the highest safety measures for guests and employees, and all guests are asked to wear masks before entering the building, to use hand sanitizer upon entry and maintain a  6′ physical distance with others on campus. All training rooms will be properly sanitized before and after each class. All Trainees who attend training on campus are required to sign, “COVID-19 MSHA TRAINING PARTICIPANT WAIVER,” prior to attending training On-Campus.

Note: Safety training courses are non-credit.

New Miner Training

(23 total hours)
Introduction to work environment will be conducted by person or persons at the company listed on the training plan to do so at the mine. This will include site specific training and walk around training at the mine. Please refer to 30CFR 46.5 and 48.25 for more details on these topics.

Annual Refresher Training

(8 hours)
Annual Refresher Training is available on campus or online Via Webex. This 8-hour course satisfies the MSHA requirement for yearly annual refresher training.

Anyone who works in the mining industry, including contractors working on a mine property, is considered a “miner” under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977. The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) operates under the authority of this Act. The United States Congress created MSHA to help reduce fatalities, injuries and illnesses among miners in our nation’s mines through a variety of activities, including on-site mine safety and health training.

Medic First Aid *

(4 hours – Pre-Registration Required)
Medic First Aid Training is available On Campus or as a blended class by Remote Skills Verification (RSV) through Otis 3.0 Portal, by appointment only. **

Remote Skills Verification (RSV) Information:

OFTC’s Safety Training Department is now offering Medic First Aid Training in a Remote Skills Verification (RSV) technology platform to safely continue to provide training and full certification to our customers. RSV is a blended learning program which will allow you to obtain or renew Medic First Aid Training while giving you complete flexibility in location and scheduling. The fully integrated RSV portal allows students to learn at their own pace and demonstrate required hands-on skills in a live, online setting.  

First, the student will complete an online, self-paced learning course. Once completed, the hands-on skills verification session will be completed by appointment on a one-on-one, live via web basis. The student will access all training in one convenient online platform: Otis 3.0 Portal.

Two options are available: 

  1. RSV-D Option. 
    • You will be shipped all hands-on skills components directly to the student (or employee/company) to keep for future use. 
    • Cost: $70/Person with a 10 person class minimum; $80/Person with a 5 person class minimum
  2. RSV-M Option. 
    • You will be shipped equipment to your student (or employee/company), but a return label will be included. You will return all training materials before receiving the digital certification card.
    • Cost: $65/Person with a 10 person class minimum; $75/Person with a 5 person class minimum

  1. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CLASSES. For scheduling or if you have any questions about the schedule, please contact Lottie Rizzardi at 478-553-2149 or
  2. A Part 46 or Part 48 Training Plan is REQUIRED prior to attendance of any MSHA class. Training plans will need to be altered to reflect Live, Online Training. OFTC can assist with this.
    1. Each Live-Online trainee must be registered through Online MSHA Training Registration. To register for training on campus register online or contact: Lottie Rizzardi, 478-553-2149,  (COVID-19 MSHA TRAINING PARTICIPANT WAIVER, required)
  3. Trainee/employer may pay by check via USPS or credit card prior to taking the course. Please allow enough time for payment to be received prior to the start of the course. Companies providing training for employees can also be invoiced.
    • Please email to arrange credit card payment. A Business Office representative will contact you upon receipt of email. In your email, please provide:
      • Name,
      • phone number where you can be reached,
      • course name and date you are paying for, and
      • total amount of payment to be processed.

  4. Trainee and/or employer must check the “Virtual Training Acknowledgement / Individual or Company *” prior to the course. This can be done via the Online MSHA Training Registration or by contacting Lottie Rizzardi at, 478-553-2149. This Agreement indicates User’s willingness and commitment to remaining active and engaged throughout the 7-8 hour course. 
  5. Once registered, trainee will receive confirmation of registration via email as well as a calendar appointment through WebEx to participate in the online course.  
  6. Trainee must have the following: 
    1. Active email address by which to receive course invitation 
    2. Access to a computer or device with video camera and microphone and reliable internet access
