OFTC Campus Closure Begins at 3PM Jan. 12, 2023

Campus Closure

Due to a severe threat of inclement weather, Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) will close all locations early on Thursday, January 12, at 3:00 PM.

OFTC’s Chief of Safety and Security, Mark Rogers, has been issuing warnings regarding the impending weather today.

From GEMA:  The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded much of central Georgia to an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) due to increased confidence in the threat of damaging thunderstorm wind gusts and tornadoes.  Expect Tornado Watches to be issued later this morning through this evening.  Severe weather is already occurring in Alabama.  Expect the line of storms to move through from late this afternoon to sometime in the evening.  In addition, storms are expected to erupt across our area ahead of the line this afternoon.

Additionally, several of our school systems have already made the decision to early release students and to cancel afternoon activities.  Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we will be closing all campuses of the college at 3 p.m. today and cancelling any classes after 3 p.m. today.
