Students Garner Gold and Silver at SkillsUSA Competition

Three Oconee Fall Line Technical College groups competed and placed in the 2017 SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta, March 23-24.

Nikita Mincey, Stephanie Parks, Virginia Pierce, LaWhitney Clover, Lauren Haywood, Deric Thomas and Ainoa Silva competed and won gold in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies where they competed as a team in an oral presentation explaining the symbolic representation of the SkillsUSA emblem.

Serena Johnson and her hand model Courtney Young competed and won gold in the Nail Care competition where Johnson was tested in six different segments consisting of oral communication skills, acrylic application, tips applied and overlaid with a light-cured gel, nail polish application, nail art pedicuring and a written exam, testing her excellence and professionalism in the field of nail technology.

Austin ‘Cord’ Yearty competed and won silver in Related Technical Math where he

demonstrated the skills required to solve mathematical problems commonly found in the skilled trades and professional and technical occupations.

Other OFTC students who competed in the competition were Thomas Hartley (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), Jared Street (Diesel Technology), Chad Thompson (CNC Nursing), and Christian Washington (Customer Service).
