OFTC Pharmacy Instructors Shepherd & Spires Attend GPHA Meeting

Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) Pharmacy Technology Program Director, Jack J. Shepherd and Pharmacy Technology Lab Assistant Breanna Spires both serve as members of the board of directors for the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association’s (GPHA) Academy of Pharmacy Technicians (APT). Spires also serves as APT co-chair and secretary.

Both Shepherd and Spires recently attended the inaugural board meeting of the APT at the annual GPHA meeting on Amelia Island Saturday, June 15th.

During the inaugural meeting, Shepherd was recognized in the President’s Circle Silver membership class for enrolling every OFTC pharmacy technology student, class of 2019, in membership to the GPHA.

With state registration as Georgia Pharmacy Technicians and strong supporters for education, Shepherd and Spires both seek to educate their students and the local community of the importance and value of pharmacy technicians within the pharmacy field in the state of Georgia.

During her time at OFTC and as a part of the APT, Spires has made several contacts to establish a close liaison with the Board of Pharmacy and State legislatures to share ideas about increasing awareness for the education of Pharmacy Technicians within the state.

Earlier this year, Shepherd, Spires, and their class of 2019 pharmacy technician students attended the Region 12 GPHA meeting in Dublin where they met a Board of Pharmacy member who will soon visit OFTC to tour the classroom, labs and campus.
