OFTC Announces Fall Commencement Date and Speaker

Sandersville, Ga. (OFTC) – Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) will host their 2016 fall commencement ceremony at the Ben J. Tarbutton Business Development Center in Sandersville, Thursday, October 13, at 7:00 P.M.

The college will award graduates with associate degrees, diplomas and technical certificates of credit in a variety of high-demand fields in Georgia, including: Accounting, Early Childhood Care and Education, Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technology, Welding, Commercial Truck Driving and more.

Sandersville native, Thomas Charles Rawlings, will serve as guest speaker during the ceremony. Rawlings received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. He’s served as the Judge of Juvenile Courts for Georgia’s Middle Circuit and as the State Child Advocate for the Protection of Children under Governor Sonny Perdue. In 2010, Tom lived in Guatemala and acted as Director to a team that sought to protect and treat child victims of sexual assault and prosecute their abusers.

Currently, Rawlings manages the McMillan & Rawlings law firm in Sandersville where he practices general law with a focus on child welfare law and legal consulting services for governments and courts. Certified as a child welfare law specialist, Rawlings has written and trained in the U.S. and abroad on issues related to children’s rights and child    protection.

Rawlings is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in International Human Rights Law at Oxford University in England. He is married to Kay and has three teenage sons: Will, Charlie and Bram.
