Student Design Competition

Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) is encouraging all area elementary, middle and high school art instructors and their students to participate in the 2017 Georgia’s annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW) student design competition.

Winners have the opportunity to win cash awards and attend the Manufacturing Appreciation Week luncheon in Atlanta with the Governor.

Students from across Georgia are encouraged to submit artwork depicting the importance of manufacturing to their lives and communities as part of Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW). MAW was developed by the Technical College System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

The deadline to enter the student design competition is January 12, 2017 and all entries should be submitted to Oconee Fall Line Technical College, Attention Emily Raley, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, 1189 Deepstep Road, Sandersville, GA 31082.

Manufacturing is the process of creating physical objects that will be used by someone or used to build something else. Students should consider products made in their hometowns, counties or statewide to include Georgia products in their designs.

Art may be created with paint, watercolors, pencils, markers, crayons, charcoal, etc. Make sure art is completely dry before shipping! Art from grades 9-12 may be computer-generated. Artwork must be sized 11”x17” and must be flat (Do not glue or paste 3-D objects to the artwork or use glitter.)

Entries are sorted by category (Grades K-5, 6-8 and 9-12), and the top four are selected based on creativity, skill/quality of the artwork and the students’ grasp of manufacturing.

For contest rules, visit www.OFTC.edu/MAW or www.georgiamaw.org.

Students from elementary, middle and high schools in Bleckley, Dodge, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Laurens, Telfair, Warren, Washington, Wheeler, and Wilkinson Counties are eligible to participate. Homeschooled students are also eligible.
