Volvo, Vanguard & Howard Sheppard Tour OFTC’s Diesel Technology Program
Volvo Inc., Vanguard Truck Center of Atlanta and Howard Sheppard Inc. recently toured the Diesel Technology Program on Oconee Fall Line Technical College’s (OFTC) South Campus in Dublin.
Mike Rice, Vice President of Fleet Operations for Howard Sheppard Inc. serves on the Occupational Advisory Committee for OFTC’s Diesel Program and was instrumental in setting up the tour for the Volvo and Vanguard representatives, who recently made several donations to the program.
Chris Gustafsson, Regional Service Manager for Volvo Inc., donated to the South Foundation on behalf of the Diesel Program a Volvo D13 Engine for OFTC’s students to train on. Mike Rice and Vanguard Truck Centers of Atlanta donated to The South Foundation a Volvo I-Shift Transmission for students to train on during the Truck Drive Trains Class.
After touring the diesel program, the Volvo and Vanguard representatives met with OFTC Career Services and Disabilities Coordinator, Sakeeta Brown to learn how job placement is handled at the college, how graduates are tracked and how to notify the college about available positions within their companies.
“We loved having the opportunity to show these representatives around our program,” shared Diesel Technology instructor, Brent Redfern. “Altogether Volvo, Vanguard and Howard Sheppard were very excited about the progress that the Diesel Program is making here at OFTC and we both look forward to many years of continued support.”
