Suggestion

boost the WiFi signal and AT&T cell phone signal in the newer addition at North Campus. I find that the WiFi signal is mostly weak and sometimes not working at all. There is no signal at all for any phone or device that uses AT&T network. I do see where signal boosters were added shortly after the new addition opened, but they are for the Verizon network.

OFTC Response

Thank you for taking the time to make a suggestion concerning the internet service in the Health Sciences and Business Development Center.  We are currently installing new Verizon internet boosters in that area, and we will certainly look into AT&T boosters as well.  Hopefully, these efforts will improve the internet in these areas.

Suggestion

Please consider offering an ASN program at the Dublin site.

OFTC Response

OFTC plans to start an Associate Degree in Nursing program in the future, and this would include being taught at the OFTC Dublin campus. Thank you for asking!

POST: 05/27/21  Nurse Aide Evening Classes in Sandersville

Suggestion

Why are none of the ALHS courses required for the Nurse Aide program offered at night on the North Campus? There are people who work during the day and cannot come to an early afternoon offering. Many times, the person is not computer savvy and cannot do the classes online. I know OFTC offers many great programs, but I think we are doing a disservice to our community by failing to offer evening courses.

OFTC Response

The Nurse Aide program contains four courses.  Although none of the courses are offered in the evening in Sandersville during the summer, we do have ALHS 1040 Introduction to Healthcare offered in the evening on North Campus during fall semester. Also, the ALHS 1060 Diet and Nutrition and ALHS 1090 Medical Terminology for Allied Health are both taught online each semester.  Although these courses are traditionally taught online, you can always make an appointment to meet face-to-face with the instructor for assistance.  The NAST 1100 Nurse Aide Fundamentals course is traditionally taught on the North Campus during the summer semester.

Our decisions to schedule classes are centered around the course demand at a given campus during a designated time.  I encourage you to register for the ALHS 1040 course in the evening this fall.  While you take that course, please talk with your adviser about offering other required courses during the evening.

POST: 05/04/19  Culinary Arts degree request

Suggestion

Please offer some form of Culinary Arts degree. There isn’t one around here and some of us can’t uproot our family in order to pursue that degree.

OFTC Response

Thank you for your suggestion regarding culinary arts.  Each year OFTC’s Leadership Team evaluates our program offerings based on the employment demands in our local area.  This year we will be conducting a comprehensive community needs assessment that we will compare to our program offerings at each location.  Based on that information and labor market data, we will identify high-demand jobs in our area.  We will then look at the best program offerings to meet that demand.  Once again, we appreciate your interest in OFTC.
