GOAL is a statewide program within the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) that honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students.
Eight students were nominated by instructors for this year’s competition and competed in a series of interviews and evaluations by a selection committee made up of representatives from local businesses and industries; they were judged on qualities like academic achievement, personal character, leadership ability and enthusiasm for technical education.
This year’s selection committee consisted of representatives from both the Dublin and Sandersville Rotary Clubs: Jan Horadan from Sandersville and Eugenia Powell, Sam Williams and Trey Taylor from Dublin.
Of the eight competitors, four were chosen as semi-finalists: Tiffany Darnell, Christian Hancock, Michelle Purvis, and Brandi White. All four were honored during the Rotary Club meeting and White was announced as winner at the close of the meeting.
As the college winner White will compete in regional judging against winners from other TCSG colleges in February and will represent OFTC at the state-level in April when one student will be named the statewide 2019 Goal winner in Atlanta.
This year’s competing students were: Tiffany Darnell, Laurens; Christian Hancock, Jefferson; Michelle Purvis Sterling, Laurens; Brandi White, Laurens; Nagla Amasaeb, Laurens; Rhett McGalliard, Dodge; Cheryl Daniel, Laurens; and Connie Laminack, Laurens.
