2021 GOAL Semi-Finalists Announced

2021 GOAL Semifinalists

Four Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) students have been selected as the college’s 2021 semi-finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) that honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students.

The semi-finalists are: Ashley Barlow, a cosmetology student from Laurens County; Nafissa Diakite, a cybersecurity student from Laurens County; Jamie Landrum, accounting student from Jefferson County; and Seth Yeomans, welding and joining technology student from Johnson County.

Each student was nominated by an OFTC instructor and required to participate in several interviews and evaluations by a selection committee of representatives from local business and industry. The students are judged on qualities like academic achievement, personal character, leadership ability and enthusiasm for technical education.

“We are thrilled that these four students have made it to the final round of GOAL nominations,” said Janet Smith who serves as OFTC’s GOAL Coordinator as well as the Director of Special Populations and Student Life. “Each one is such a solid representative of our college and our local communities and we cannot wait to announce the winner and watch them compete on the regional level.”

Of the four semi-finalists, one winner will be chosen and announced during the Dublin Rotary Club meeting on March 5. The college’s 2021 GOAL winner will compete in regional judging, which will include students from the other 21 TCSG and Board of Regent colleges. The top region finalists will later compete at the state-level where one student will be named the statewide GOAL winner for TCSG.
