Earn Criminal Justice Degree Online at OFTC
Oconee Fall Line Technical College
(OFTC) now offers three criminal justice programs that can be completed online,
allowing students access to a great workforce education from home.
“This is a great opportunity for
individuals in our community,” says OFTC Criminal Justice Instructor Kevin Corbin,
“to get the entry-level training they need in the corrections, security,
investigative, police administration, regional law enforcement, and correctional
facility fields without having to travel to locations outside of their own
community.”
According to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, employment opportunities are expected to grow within many
areas of criminal justice including corrections, security, and law enforcement
through 2016. Employment of security guards is
expected to grow by 17 percent through 2016, which is faster than the average
for all occupations.
OFTC offers 3 different programs in the criminal justice
field: Criminal Justice Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree,
Criminal Justice Technology Diploma, and Criminal Justice Technician Technical
Certificate of Credit.
Classes for these programs are offered
during the day, evening, and most (if not all) can be taken online to
accommodate your busy schedule.
“For degree and diploma students, the
only classes that can’t be completed online are the practicum or externships,” continues
Corbin. “Students usually complete these ‘hands-on’ classes with a local agency
in their own hometown.”
The practicum is a graduate level
course that gives students supervised practical application of their program
theory. An externship allows students to experience
the workplace up close and personal by applying their academic major through
discussions with a professional who has a similar background and assess your
"fit" for a particular position or organization.
